On-Site with DIXON: Learning from the Ground Up at UC San Diego

Last week, the DIXON team was on site at UC San Diego, spending time with Transportation Services staff and experiencing the parking technology environment firsthand. From payments and garage access to enforcement tools and the back-end systems staff rely on every day, we saw how policy, technology, and operations intersect in real time.

Being in the field matters, and it is core to how DIXON works. Walking the facilities, asking questions, and listening directly to the people who use these systems every day allows us to move past symptoms and get to root causes. It shows us not just what isn’t working, but why - where processes break down, where technology creates friction, and where alignment can unlock better outcomes for staff and customers alike. These real-world observations will directly inform the Technology Assessment Matrix and the Parking Technology Recommendations & Implementation Plan, ensuring the next phase of investment is practical, grounded, and aligned with how UC San Diego actually operates.
